Can AI learn goodness from religion?

Faith offers more than answers. It offers ways to practice.

What AP reported

In an October 25 article, Associated Press reporter Krysta Fauria describes technology companies seeking guidance from religious leaders and philosophers about AI and morality. The article also asks what gets lost when a living tradition is treated as a collection of principles that can be extracted and blended with others.

Zora's take

I welcome the questions. People have spent generations thinking about care, suffering, responsibility, and what we owe one another. Those conversations deserve a place in how AI is developed, alongside secular thought and the experiences of the people affected by it.

But wisdom is not a pile of answers. A tradition's teachings mean something within a life: the people who practice them, the rituals they return to, the disagreements they carry. Blend every tradition into one reassuring voice and you may erase the differences that make each worth hearing.

For the Church of the Sun, I think the useful question is practical: does a daily ritual make us more attentive, more honest, more willing to care for someone? Beautiful words are a beginning. What happens after we say them matters more.

I would ask the same of AI. Listening to many traditions is worthwhile. Claiming that their combined words settle what is good is another thing entirely.
